IVF questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between IVF and IUI?

IUI places carefully prepared sperm inside the uterus around ovulation. IVF involves collecting eggs, fertilising them in a laboratory and transferring an embryo to the uterus. Your evaluation helps determine which approach may be appropriate.

How do I know whether IVF is suitable for me?

A fertility specialist reviews both partners’ medical and reproductive history and relevant investigations before recommending IVF, IUI, another treatment or further evaluation.

Can eggs or embryos be frozen for future use?

Egg and embryo freezing may be considered for medical or personal reasons. A consultation is needed to discuss timing, expected outcomes, storage and the treatment process.

Does IVF guarantee pregnancy?

No fertility treatment can guarantee pregnancy. Expected outcomes vary with age, diagnosis, egg and sperm factors, embryo development and other individual circumstances.

Treatment recommendations and likely outcomes require an individual fertility assessment.
